Characteristics of Macrothricidae

postabdomen only partially ensheathed by carapax, ventral and caudal rims with long bristles, 5-6 pairs of phyllopodes, but 6^th pair reduced, female antennula flexible, postabdomen with little or no sealing points, latency eggs are laid in an almost unaltered carapax, preferentially in waters rich with plants, living between plants or benthic and then burrowing in the substrate
